Better than expected is what exhibitors are saying about the turnout in ProPak Asia 2022 on day 1. The event which runs from 15-18 June 2022 at BITEC in Bangna, rebounds with Thailand’s reopening and presents the best of global processing and packaging technologies especially for the F&B market.

While pre-pandemic editions occupied more halls, this year over 1,000 exhibiting companies bring together new solutions for business development, with revenues likely to reach 5 billion baht, said organisers. Among the exhibitors are Akomag, AZO, Benison, Cavanna, Clearpack, Donaldson Filtration, EMURA, ET Pack, Gerhard Schubert, Heat and Control, Heuft, Hermann Untraschall, INCOMEC, Illig, Ishida, Krones, Liquibox, Markem-Imajet, Marianni, Mettler Toledo, Senoberg, Sidel, Siemens, Steriflow, tna, and Wolf.

The number of trade visitors is expected to reach 35,000. A good number of attendees have come from Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, and other Asian countries as of the first day. Based on these figures, ProPak Asia still holds the lead as largest trade exhibition for the manufacturing, processing and packaging industries in the region.

For this 29th edition, ProPak Asia gets right into the heart of the matter, with the theme “Sustainability in Processing and Packaging for Our Better World.” It prioritises the needs of the food and beverage industry. It sees the need for stakeholders to address food availability which is under threat not just from climate change, but from political conflict that has led some countries to stop exporting certain food products. Aside from these, industry has to step up their game and deal with food loss, packaging waste, and by-products.

For instance, ET Pack export manager Agnes Bosquillon explains that sustainable packaging considers both the materials used and the effective protection it can provide.

Meanwhile, Thailand enjoys stable food supply to meet domestic consumption and export market, attracting further trade business. Some local organisations and companies are ready to provide support and consultation for businesses such as the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, the Food Processing Industry Club, and Federation of Thai Industries.

According to Dr Atchaka Sibunruang, Chairman of the Board of the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), ProPak Asia will open Thai SMEs, which is one of the main driving forces of the economy, to how they can utilize automation, IoT and AI systems to further their business.

Mettler Toledo general manager for Thailand & Vietnam, Orawan Kongsomboon, affirms this, saying that companies have to embrace digitalisation to be able to move into the direction of sustainability.

Knowledge sharing activities are key to ProPak Asia. Manu Leopairote, Chairman of Informa Markets, highlighted Executive Talk with high-profile executives from various industries in Asia; the Packaging Forum hosted by World Packaging Organisation; a conference on international food given by the Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand; a workshop on product development; and a seminar by Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research; the Philippine Investment Forum by the Department of Trade and Industry Philippines and The Future Food Pavilion by various foreign organisations.

The interactive zones include the Sustainable Square which shows participants how to integrate sustainability into operating businesses. The Idea Theater invites bloggers, gurus and experts to share inspirations for business development; The Innovation Stage co-hosted by World Packaging Organisation, is both a consulting platform with live stage activities and a showcase for award-winning packages. The SME Pavilion is a center where small and medium size companies can meet with consultants on their business operations such as investment, product development, material selection, and packaging designs, said Mr Leopairote.
